Craft Preppy- Sharpie Jewelry Tray

This is one of the quickest, easiest, cutest DIY's you will ever do.  Not kidding.  I originally saw this DIY on Good & Messy but I of course, changed it up a little bit.  You can see the original project here.

I'll be trying to do more DIY's from now through December for gift ideas!  If you have something specific you want me to try, let me know in the comments!

Supplies
Small ceramic bowl, plate, or dipping bowl- I got mine from Target.  It's Threshold and it was only $1.99!  I would link to it but it isn't available online.  To get inexpensive ceramic dishes be sure to check thrift stores, they always have tons!
Oil or water based Sharpies- I haven't tried the oil based but I hear that they allow you to put the finished project in the dishwasher!

Directions

1) Draw whatever you want on the dish.  The nice part about the Sharpies is that if you don't like what you drew it wipes right off!  I used a small square dish so it could be used as a little jewelry tray, I think things like this are really cute!

2) Cure the marker by putting it in the oven at  350 degrees for 30 minutes.  The marker will no longer rub off!

If you use traditional Sharpies DO NOT PUT THE FINISHED PROJECT IN THE DISHWASHER.  This will cause all of the Sharpie to wash off.  I hear that if you use oil based Sharpies you can put the finished project in the dishwasher, however I have never tried it myself.  The traditional Sharpies can still be washed, just no dishwasher.

This is a super cute and inexpensive gift, especially with the holidays coming up!  I just gave one of these to my friend as a belated birthday gift and she loved it!

Eva

When Marley Lilly Makes Your Day- Marley Lilly Cashmere Feel Scarf Review!

Let me take a minute to clearly illustrate the weather in the state I live in.  Two weeks ago, November 10th, to be exact, we had four or five inches of snow dumped on us.  From that point on it occasionally snows for the next two weeks and yes, the snow actually stays on the ground, until yesterday, that is.  Yesterday, it all of a sudden turned from 5 degrees to 50.  All of the snow melted in one day.  It then started snowing again the same day.  So yes, the weather is crazy here, and yes, I'm freezing.

This pretty accurately describes the weather here.

I can't complain too much, though!  Snow is one of my favorite things about winter, Nutcracker, and the holiday season!

That being said, as soon as it started snowing I realized I really wanted a nice, warm winter scarf that I could wear both indoors and out.  Then somehow Marley Lilly seemed to sense that I was having an off day and surprise package came from them.  What's better? What was in it was one amazingly soft, beautiful, monogrammed winter scarf.

See that white speck on my scarf?  That's a snowflake.  It started snowing when I was taking these pictures.  Thank you to my sister for facing the cold to help me get a few shots.  :)

I think this scarf is the Marley Lilly Cashmere Feel Scarf in Violet.  IT IS THE SOFTEST SCARF I HAVE EVER FELT.  This scarf is $22.99 on the Marley Lilly website and as far as I'm concerned, it's worth every penny.  Seriously, I want one in pink and camel too!

My sister said it looked like I was grimacing in the picture.  I wasn't trying to, honestly.  It was just really cold.

I had been thinking about ordering this scarf for a while, but honestly, I was a little skeptical that it wasn't going to be that nice.  I shouldn't have been.  There's a reason why people like Marley Lilly so much!  The fabric seems to be of very good quality and it's not itchy AT ALL.  The monogram is also nicely set and it doesn't seem to be pulling away from the fabric an abnormal amount.  Lastly, the tassels.  Like most scarves, this scarf has tassels at the end of it and in my experience, they usually start to unwind after a few times.  Between this and the Lilly Pulitzer murfees, I've finally found scarves that don't.

This is definitely my go-to Winter scarf this year and I can't wait to wear it all through the Nutcracker and Holiday Seasons!  I would highly recommend buying it especially if you live in the North like I do!

Eva

Craft Preppy- Fabric Covered Books

Hi Prepperinas!  I recently discovered a really cute, really easy DIY to make books so much cuter!  The original DIY instructions are on Two Twenty One but here's my take!

Supplies
Hardcover book, Sketchbook, or Journal
Spray Adhesive
Fabric (Enough to leave a 1-1 1/2" border around your book)
Scissors
Butter Knife
Hot Glue Gun
Cardstock
Fabric Marking or Washable Marker (Optional)
Ribbon (Optional)

Directions
1) Lay your fabric down on a flat surface and set the book on top of it, open.  Using your fabric marking or washable marker, trace a 1-1 1/2" margin around the entire book.  If you're not using a marker, just eyeball it.  I like things really exact so I measured out exactly 1" around and it took probably more time than it should have.

2)  Cut out your outline. Make slits where the spine is.

3) Lay newspaper down and spray the front cover with your spray adhesive.  I'm using the E6000 Spray Adhesive.  Lay the fabric over the front cover and press it down.  Repeat this for the back cover.  I would recommend doing this outside because spray adhesive stays sticky after it dries.

 4) After the glue dries, fold the excess fabric in and hot glue it down.  Fold the corner in and a dot of glue.  Do this for both the front and back covers.

5) Now for the spine.  Use your butter knife to poke in the strip of fabric.  You can a a dot of glue to make sure it stays in if you want, but you may have to cut the strip shorter in order to have it go all the way in.

6) Cut cardstock to just over the edges of your fabric and glue down.

 7) (Optional) Tie and glue bow to front cover!

 You're finished!

These books make great gifts, especially with the holidays coming up, have fun making them!

Eva

Twelfth Preppy Haul- Preppy Goes to the Orlando Premium Outlets!

Hi Prepperinas!  I know I promised you a haul from the Orlando Premium Outlet, so here it is!  I only got things from Kate Spade and Vera Bradley, so this isn't the longest haul I've ever had!

1.  Kate Spade Gumdrop Earrings

These earrings are so cute and I absolutely adore them!  The one thing, that I'm not that happy
about is that I am allergic to anything that is not actual gold or silver, and these earrings are supposed to be "24 karat gold filled" so they shouldn't bother my ears, however they do occasionally.

     Was: $28
     Sale: $16.80

2.  Kate Spade Cobble Hill Bee

At first, I wasn't sure if I wanted to get this, it's neutral and I thought it might be too plain and the color wasn't the right shade of nude.  After much consideration, I got it and I'm so happy I did!  I use this wristlet all the time and it fits my phone, iPod, and money perfectly!  It was also an amazing deal!

     Was: $78
     Sale: $28.08

3.  Vera Bradley Flip Flops in Lilli Bell

I didn't have a pair of cheap flip flops just to wear to the poor or beach so I picked these up!  They're in on of my favorite prints, Lilli Bell, and are so cute!  Unfortunately, they have already been packed away for the season, what can I say?  The Midwest is COLD!  I'll try to find them and get a picture for y'all later.  ;)  I think I got them for $6-8 but I can't remember the exact price.

4. Vera Bradley Cocktail Napkins in Mocha Rouge, Rhythm and Blues, and Plum Petals

As many of you know, I definitely love my bows!  I purchased the Vera Bradley Cocktail Napkins to make more and They are so cute!  I can't currently find my Plum Petals ones though,  I made a bow for my friend out of them and they've now seemed to disappear!  Note: I am omitting the price on this one, I got these for about 75% off, however I am using these for items I will be selling so you can go check out the bows in these patterns as soon as my Etsy shop is out.  Look out for Eva Kim Designs!

5. Vera Bradley Sugar Free Peppermints in Lilli Bell

Yes, I got mints literally shaped like purses.  No, I'm not kidding you.  Yes, of course they're in Lilli Bell!  I almost bought these in one of the normal retail stores about a year ago, but I restrained myself under the premise of "No, Eva, you don't need $3 mints." and "Yes, Eva, if you don't get these you can go get Fruigurt." Which, by the way is some of the best frozen yogurt if you've never had it.  Try looking for it at Macy's.  I recommend the Fruit Sundae.  Anyway, I found these at the Outlet and bought not one, but two packages of them under the premise of "Aw Eva, the little containers are so cute and the slide off and you could totally use them even after the mints run out!"  My sisters did the same thing and I'm fairly sure that one of them actually bought three packages of them in some of the older retired patterns such as Lemon Parfait just because of the tins.

    Was: $3
    Sale: $1.50

I am SO sorry this took so long to post!  I have been incredibly busy with dance and school.  I took all Honors and AP classes this year and I'm definitely starting to feel the full effect of it all!  I absolutely LOVE writing this blog it's just that I also love to dance and I obviously have to go to school so sometimes I don't get to post as much as I'd like to, especially because I've changed to taking all of my own pictures.  I will definitely try to post more!

Preppy Goes Back to School with Lilly, Again! Lilly Pulitzer Binder Covers 2014!

Hi Prepperinas!  I got back from Florida a little over three weeks ago and since then I have been getting a very positive response to my binder covers from last year, and because I decided to make them again this year, I'm posting them again for you!  If you decide to use them I would much appreciate you giving credit to me, I've spent a lot of time trying to perfect these binder covers!  To see how I organize my binder, check out last year's post on binder organization!  I also did a Craft Preppy last year on how to personalize your pencils a little bit with Lilly Pulitzer prints, you know I'll be doing that for this year's binder covers as well!

Just like last year I'm posting both the binder covers I made with my subjects, AND the blank binder covers that you could fill in yourself!  Here's how you enter in your own subjects.

1) Save the picture to your computer.

2) Go to my favorite photo editing website PicMonkey.

3) Click on edit photo and select the binder cover you saved.

4) Go to the text button on the left hand side of the website to select your font, color, and size!  Don't forget to center the font so your binder cover looks nice and even.  :)

5) After you are done with your font, press save at the top of the screen to save the binder cover to your computer and potentially rename it.  For example, if I downloaded the blank Lilly Pulitzer Lobstah Roll binder cover and had Science as the text I might save it to my computer as "Lilly Pulitzer Lobstah Roll Binder Cover BLANK", and after editing it with the text "Science", save the new version as "Lilly Pulitzer Lobstah Roll Binder Cover" or as "Lilly Pulitzer Lobstah Roll Science Binder Cover".  Make sense?

Okay that's enough of the directions, here are the binder cover I did for the 2014-2015 school year!

For the front of my binder, I used Lilly Pulitzer First Impression

This year I did add a monogram to the front and I think it's so cute!  I'll do a Craft Preppy for this soon!

I couldn't decide if I wanted First Impression or Lilly Pulitzer A Story Written in the Sun for the cover, so I also did a monogram one for A Story Written in the Sun!

I used Lilly Pulitzer She She Shells for French!  I absolutely adore She She Shells.  Did anyone see the Tate Skirt or the Little Delia Dress in it?  They were adorable!

For AP Prep Bio, or Biology, I used Lobstah Roll.  I figured that the lobsters were animals and because biology is the study of living things it kind of tied in, right?

For English I decided to use A Story Written in the Sun.  Lilly Pulitzer never made clothes in this print but it was the overarching print for Resort 2014, I love it!

For Math I used Lilly Pulitzer Hotty Pink Lemonade.  I love the Delia Dress in this print, plus Lilly Pulitzer redid their jeep in this print!  I couldn't decide if I wanted to use Hotty Pink Lemonade or Lilly Pulitzer Mojo for Math so I made both!

Lilly Pulitzer Mojo was used for AP World History!  I used Mojo because I just ordered a dress in it from the Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale.  That haul will be posted as soon as my items arrive!

I used Electric Feel for Health!  I love the vibrant colors in this print and I think it makes a really cute Elsa Top!

If you have and binder cover requests just comment below!  I love knowing what people think about my posts and getting feedback so if you have a suggestion on what I could do better, or for new blog posts feel free to leave it!  I of course did some shopping while I was in Florida so look out for that haul soon!  Have an amazing school year!

Love and Stay Preppy,
Eva
